Re: The real difference between 14 and 15 model?
Guess what, alarm function/setting and central locking on keyed or keyless is identical so you cant win. And to add to the fun the keyless fod is the same shape at both ends. Obviously designed by somebody who never uses one! The most annoying thing about the key/alarm thing for me so far is that t...

Re: The real difference between 14 and 15 model?
...keyless ignition My advice, avoid it like the plague. My last bike (not a BMW) had keyless ignition. Initially I thought it was a waste of time (and money). Then, when the (also keyless) fuel cap failed, 50 miles from home, I got seriously p****d off. From then, I n...

Re: R1200RT Twin Cam (2010-2013)
Ride it the way you like best - with or without panniers etc etc. I take mine off because I find it easier to filter and I also like the less bulky look of the bike that way. Putting panniers on in case you drop the bike is the logic that leads people to ruin the lovely lines of an RT with those HOR...

Re: Fresh blood! Considering purchasing an RT
This thread seems to be a mixture of themes - tyres and recall bikes. I bought a recall 2014 LCRT. It was a steal at the price I got it for (maybe that's why the people that sell them are called stealers!) and no way could I persuade myself to pay list for a different one just because it h...

I haven't noticed temp variation either - but the Multistrada used to do it all the time. It was the fans cutting in that caused it...

Re: Metzelers Z8
Interesting. My RT came with Metzelers fitted. I'm probably going to replace them with Pilot Road 4s when they wear out. I can't really explain why (the Metzleers haven't given me any reason to mistrust them) but I just feel better on PR4s...

Re: 2014 RT Transmission
I'm up to about 2,000 miles now on my LC (with gear-assist). No major gear box complaints - at least not as far as smoothness is concerned. I do wish Neutral were easier to find. My Multistrada had 5 neutrals - one between each pair of gears. The RT seems to only have h...

Re: Ideal tankbag R1200RT LC?
I don't like the straps/yokes etc. that go with most tank bags. On my Multistrada I had an SW Motech Engage bag, using their quick-release EVO ring. The ring just bolts directly over the fuel filler ring, using four longer bolts and the bag simply clips/unclips to it. Looks like ...

Re: Ideal Toolkit?
Many many years ago when I got my first 1150RT it came with the bits under the seat just like the present RTs. I made a fuss and got a supplementary tool kit as BMW call it for free. Its now been used on a total of 8 bikes and seems to have all the necessary bits to keep you going. I'm no...

Re: Nav V
Don't get your point about routes. If you want to go from point to point on a trip you either load it using BaseCamp or add waypoints to the route. I like to build routes in BaseCamp and upload them. I preferred to use the 550's easily accessible SD card but am getting used to h...

Re: Nav V
I've been following this thread with interest. I have a Nav5 on my new RT but only because a) it integrates better into the dash and b) it was free with the bike. As far as its functionality is concerned, I have mixed views. The screen is great and the processor is very quick. However, on ...
