Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request
Here's a thought. You know how people frequently will hit their turn signals immediately before turning and sometimes after they have initiated the turn? Rather than ask the dealer to reset the time-base interval I simply hit the turn signal now much earlier which gives folks be...

Re: Color Change / Paint options
Just curious - why would a quality and attractive paint job decrease value? With the available color palette from BMW on any given year being so... bland, I would think that if someone had a professional paint job done in a tasteful and attractive color scheme it would not lessen value but be the or...

Re: Seems to be getting harder to get from 1st to 2nd gear
Pre-loading and short-shifting in gears 1 & 2 work best for me. It's amazing the racket that occurs when you forget to pre-load! After 3rd gear I'm all about the Gear Pro in both directions. Best for me is upshifting anytime after 3.5k. Downshifting is best down around 2.5k or less. Too much les...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request
Forget Proshift for 1st and 2nd both up and down. 99% of us do. But going down as long as the throttle is closed and you're not at some ridiculous revs it's always smooth. For me anyway. Yes, I have noticed this as well and I think I'll be pretty much doing the same. Another fea...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request
I should have clarified on the self-cancelling directionals - I know that the BMW does self cancel... eventually! It just seems to take forever. I got quite used to the Harley which at some point added accelerometers that sense bike lean in combination with directional use and cancels them almost im...

Re: Installation of Toll RFID tag
Why not one of the glove boxes? I stuck mine in the left one and it picks up just fine. You can lock it in there but I don't keep mine locked. I push it back and put some other small incidentals in front of it like ear plugs and a small bottle of meds. I also painted it black so you can't see it in ...

Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request
A solid month in and just a week from my long review. I was going to update that post but since after the first page it deteriorated into three more pages of squabbling I figured I just start a new thread. And therein lies my request: If you feel the need to debate an opinion, start your own thread....

Re: Newbie Dublin Ireland
Hello and welcome, Martin! Another guy from the other side of the big pond here in New England (New Hampshire), but spent a whole week in Dublin back in April visiting our daughter that was working and living there for the past year. Great city! No shortage of pubs! How's all the road work coming al...

Hey Paul - yup, 30 years worth. First boat was SS-574...last SSN-770. Hellow Subman from yet another former submariner and one possibly local to you depending on where you are in that big state! SSN-614 from '82-'88. I'm in the Seacoast, NH but I ride the beautiful back roads of Maine qui...

You won't be sorry. Great bikes. Definitely test ride one.

Re: Nelson-Rigg tail pack review
It actually comes with a waterproof rain cover for those that ride in the rain. We generally do not so it was not a consideration for us. As for security, I don't keep anything in there worth stealing. You can lock it with a small lock like a luggage lock but that would only encourage someone to cut...

Re: Nelson-Rigg tail pack review
Don't understand. Why would you buy a touring bike , add what appears to be a very large screen and obviously don't use a GPS unit that fits the dedicated cradle. Surely there are lots of bikes at half the price and weight for just day trips etc Because it's a great bike for sho...

Re: Quiet helmet recommendations?
Think your right. It's probably an age thing as most of us have twigged falling off wearing a T shirt and shorts hurts and I for one now know I'm not immortal which I was in my 20s. There's something to be said for the age/wisdom thing and no longer being immortal (although you wouldn't k...

Re: Quiet helmet recommendations?
A few years back I went over to 3/4 helmets with a face shield, still pretty noisy. Then removed face shield and just wear riding sunglasses. Very quiet, relatively speaking. One thing I've always noticed about the BMW crowd over all other bike riders, they 'suit up' from head to toe in more body ar...

Nelson-Rigg tail pack review
I was looking for some sort of tail bag/pack/case for my new RT. I don't like the look of the large BMW top hard cases (not to mention the price!) and since we don't tour we don't need that much room anyway. BMW makes as soft bag that was not bad but even that was a little larger than what I wanted ...
