Re: BKS Leather Trousers

My 2 piece BKS suit was a made to measure one back in 1993 (When I purchased my first BMW bike!) and it has the "police" trousers. I think my BKS suit is as good as leathers can be and I would buy another without question if I needed to. However Like all leathers (that fit properly( it tak...

Re: I'm Thinking of trading in my F800GT for a R1200RT

I disagree with that. BM data shows that the RT is 274kg (604 lbs) fully fuelled, the F800GT 213kg (470 lbs). Thus the RT is 61kg (134 lbs) heavier than the F800GT which is about 29% more. I'd call that a great deal heavier. I'm not knocking the RT, it's a great bike, I'm on my third and find that ...

I did the same back in 1993 (K75RT) Good news I loved the bike - Bad news I have since purchased 4 more BMWs and they are not cheap, you have been warned!

Re: I'm Thinking of trading in my F800GT for a R1200RT

I'm a relatively new rider and bought a F800GT 3 years ago. I love this bike and really have only two complaints but they are big complaints. 1.) I get beat up pretty good by the wind on this bike and 2.) The vibration in the handle bars constantly puts my hands to sleep. I am seriously considering...

Re: Bluetooth audio sounds awful

RTMan10 is really the font of all knowledge on this topic. Hard to disagree with him. I have both an Autocom (using a Schuberth C3) and the BMW BT set-up (using a System 6 Evo). For solo riding, the sound quality and controllability of the BMW BT kit is excellent - every bit as good as the Autocom....

Re: Bluetooth audio sounds awful

Rather unusually on the subject of BT, I disagree with RTMan this time. The quality from my BMW BT unit is not far short of that from my Autocom - at anything over a few mph it's genuinely hard to tell the difference, other than the Autocom does have more volume available. I'm more inclined to thin...

Re: Modification of the turn signal cancel button

When you got used to it I reckon it was the best system ever. And it never broke. I blame MCN for its demise. BMW said they dropped it because the switchgear couldn't be adapted for all the extra functions. My take on the old switch gear is that Harley Davidson did it even better, press once with y...

Re: HID fitted to water cooled RT

AT LAST - somebody else who's worried about how cool their bike looks. I thought I was the only one. Otherwise, how do you explain all the guys with blue, brown and/or gold coloured bikes? :alas: :alas: :alas: Have to agree with Benchmark, all the lights should be bright white. But as for thinking ...

Re: HID fitted to water cooled RT

No it's the other way round, LED on main, HID on main would be a bad choice for flash or quick use of main as HID have a short warm up time to full brightness. The link I posted above is for HID with a lamp fitting of H7 which is dip only as full beam on the water cooled is H1 ;) Sorry for getting ...

Re: HID fitted to water cooled RT

I tried LED for dip but due to the light leaving the led from 2 LED's back to back so not quite 360degrees I wasn't happy with the beam pattern, I haven't road tested with the HID but looks good on the garage door ;) I tried a kit off fleabay that said it was canbus compatible, but wasn't so went w...

Re: HID fitted to water cooled RT

Good effort! What HID kit did you use that fitted inside? Did you do just full beam or both dip & main? I am wavering between going HID or LED. I had HIDs in my 2008 R1200RT and also in my F800GT but I think LED might be the best way to go now, (have not worked out which supplier makes the best ...

Re: Foil antenna (as on the K1600) on a RT

Great to have someone taking the time and effort to look at this. I would love to remove the antenna from the front fairing as I keep catching when walking past the bike in my (very packed) garage and also because the reception is not as good as in my cars (but it should be). Please keep us updated ...
