Re: To ACF50 or not to ACF50
Maybe we should also consider XCP porducts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBgF07I7TQM Interesting video. Might try XCP clear coat. Looks like it sprays well unlike ACF50 from can. Bennetts guy has also done a thorough test on cleaning products. Always kept away from washing up liquid but apparent...

Re: To ACF50 or not to ACF50
With the RT now tucked away, I'm continuing to use my XJ650. The application of GT85 seems to be proving successful. Been out a couple of times, most recently, just hosed the bike off and the dirt lifted away without any detergent or scrubbing. Dried the bike and re-applied some GT85. At £3 a tin f...

Re: Cost to Change - £'s
PCP is a very clever product for the dealer and an enticing one for the customer. The average PCP customer replaces his bike every 3 years. He pays lower than normal HP payments has a new bike every three years and always in warranty. So what's not to like ? The cost longterm. The last time I looked...

Re: Cost to Change - £'s
There used to be a useful PCP calculator on the BMW website but I'm buggered if I can find it. If you have a good bike and from the pictures and what I have read you do, then I would stick with it. The new 1250 are nearly £20K and I cannot say I'm impressed with that. BMW are getting expensive and t...

Re: Micro mini 1/4" ratchet to carry on the bike
Always useful those small rackets. I carry on the bike a Beta Mini Set. Got it some years ago in a closing down sale, couldn't resist the price. So glad I bought it because I use it all the time on the bike. Handy for all the fairing screws etc. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beta-9000937-C39-11-SOCKETS-A...

Re: To ACF50 or not to ACF50
I think that helps a lot in keeping the bike looking like new. I think how you use your bike an all over ACF50 spray is OTT. I have always maintained if the bike is clean and dry then it cannot rust. Protect with what ever takes your fancy will help shift dirt when cleaning. I use wax to protect sur...

Re: To ACF50 or not to ACF50
Looks very clean David. I'm guessing the bike is not used in winter and is kept well away from salt.

Re: Servicing - Dealer, Independent or DIY.
Done some DIY servicing today. Checked valve clearances, replaced spark plugs & air filter and changed gearbox oil. Good days work David before it gets cold. Did mine a week ago. Good to see my valve clearances were still all within specification at 50k. Just one job left to do before winter se...

Re: Exhaust Flap Bowden cables R1250RT
2014 bike two seized valves so two sets of headers in 30k. 2019 1250 seized valve, headers changed in April 7k. Two mates, 1250s a set of headers each. Two 2020 blood bikes! Set of headers each. Another mate on a 21 bike one set of headers already. Not a great bit of engineering. Oh and two 2020 12...

Re: Exhaust Flap Bowden cables R1250RT
To be fair I have only had the valve seize once on my bike and that's over 7 years and 50k. It's just a nuisance more than anything else. My KTM 890 Adventure does not have an exhaust valve so if they can do it maybe BMW should as well. But the way BMW is going it will probably be my last.

Re: Exhaust Flap Bowden cables R1250RT
Excellent approach sakm. I have tried high temperature Permatex Nickel but it's getting it into the spindle bearing which is the problem hence the use of WD40 which penetrates well. Next time I will try your approach. Cheers.

Re: Exhaust Flap Bowden cables R1250RT
Probably the best approach is to take the end can off, stuff a clean rag down the pipe to protect the CAT and squirt a little WD40 on the spindle. Leave it to soak in and then repeat. Also worth taking the cables off, or one at least and giving the valve a good work out until the squeak goes away. Y...
