Re: 2021 R1250RT Battery drain/fail to start
Ok, so first up I have to say I am very comfortable with fiddling with bike electrics. Way back, my 1993 K75RT killed it's battery every couple of years, so when I replaced it with a new 2001 R1150RT I fitted a pigtail direct to battery and used an Optimate trickle charger. I did the same with my 20...

Re: Micro mini 1/4" ratchet to carry on the bike
I carry one of these Facom sets, yes it is expensive but it has so many useful bits in such a small size and great quality and guarantee . https://www.primetools.co.uk/product/facom-r-181nano-1-4-drive-high-precision-ratchet-socket-bit-set-5-5-14mm/ But I have to say the micro one the OP linked to, ...

Re: Top case woes
During our recent big tour I was disappointed to find my BMW system 7 helmet doesn’t fit the OEM top case that came with my September 20 R1250RT LE. It has built in comms with no after market camera etc. It means I carry my lid into every hotel when I planned to store it on the ...

Re: TFT and General stuff on the 21 R1250RT
The more I hear about the 2021 RT's FTF, the more I am content with my 2020 R1250RT despite really wanting the radar cruise and adaptive/LED headlights.

Re: New 2020 or wait for the '21?
I have a March 2020 RT and would love the new LED headlight and adaptive cruise. BUT no way on god's earth would I put up with that awful TFT implementation, to get them!! :alas: I hear that not only does the TFT look like an afterthought just stuck onto the dash, but they are easy to pull...

Re: Crud Catcher
I have always been reluctant to put things around the jugs, ... I suspect that, when you put those cylinder protection covers, ... you block air flow unto the engine. And I am guessing that designers count on the aerodynamic of air flow around the engine as a cooling factor...I am just guessing but...

Re: 2011 R12RT - Fuel level?
I think the tube that the fuel came out of is the overfull tube from near the fuel filler cap. One suggestion is: - Fuel station tanks are underground so the fuel is colder than the ambient temperature. If you top up "to the max" and only ride a few miles home, the fuel can then expanded a...

Re: R1250RT 2020 key fob battery change
I'm the second owner - no warranty and they're not going to help me out of the goodness of their heart(s)...I've already discussed it with them and they suggested a new ($400CAD) FOB... I might dismantle it one day and look for a poor solder connection perhaps making a constant circuit (b...

Re: R1250RT 2020 key fob battery change
Regarding battery life expectancy - mine needs to be replace every 2 to 3 months (which seems far too soon). Obviously battery quality is a factor as well as how often you/I lock unlock luggage etc... I carry spares in my jacket pocket, under the motorcycle seat, and in the trun...

Re: Crud Catcher
If you bolt an engine protector on, doesn't that just trap all the crap behind it? The purpose of an engine protector is the same as a sump guard to stop something damaging the engine. If you just want to keep debris from marking the casing, then a fender extender does the job. But if you want to r...

Re: Speaker Connectors for R1200/1250 RTs?
If your Speaker plugs are 2 wire & I suspect they are then this 2 Pin plug is correct, even though it doesn't show that on the Fiche from BMW. Yes, my wires are 2 core. So I will order one set and if they are ok I can order another set for the other speaker later. Thanks all, I will report back!

Re: Roadside repairs for newer bikes?
?? Why? So I never have to worry about getting to a fuel station/home when I have run the bike over 300 miles since the last fill-up. No one like filling up more than necessary. Why not? - After all, I have more than enough room in the pannier for; a small tool kit, tyre repair ...

Re: Speaker Connectors for R1200/1250 RTs?
The ex-Autocom employee at Chainspeed used Posi-taps for the installation on my bike. The marks made by the Posi-taps are almost invisible after removal. Just don't worry about it. Hope this helps (and you don't have OCD), John John, I am an Accountant and have to keep reminding my wife that OCD is...
