Re: BMW advising exhaust valve sticking needing new headers at £1200+
What does the bike doesn't fault mean then? If the flap is stuck it throws a fault code on the ECU. If its a 1250 and its stuck the engine fault light comes on. It means that on the 1200 Wethead, the bike dashboard does not light up with a warning. However, when a diagnostics box is plugged in, it ...

Re: BMW advising exhaust valve sticking needing new headers at £1200+
...they claimed that a valve in the exhaust is sticking which needs the valve and Headers? I have just freed mine up, see: https://www.bmwlt.com/forums/rt-series/185971-wethead-exhaust-valve-seized.html It took time but worked like a charm. As an aside, they normally seize in the open position (rea...

How about the fact that when compared to the RT, the RS looks ugly and unfinished?

Re: Coolant leaking
Mine doesn't have that hole, why’s that? The hole was removed around 2017, and a tube is fitted to take any seep down toward the bottom of the bike (I believe). Anyhow, as people can't see it, they don't worry about it. As should the OP. Just keep an eye on the radiator header tank, in the same way...

Re: Might return to BM ownership
Hi. I used to own an R1100RT back in 1997-2006, then I swapped for the new R1200RT. I ...I am thinking once again of going back to an RT. I have seen a 2016 RT SE with 8k+ miles on it. Is there anything I should be looking for fault wise? It would have a 24 month warranty as it is from a dealer. An...

Re: Long time, no post - a couple questions
No, definitely not. Well, certainly fully close throttle for down shifting but I rarely use wide open throttle. I have found recently that shift assist in the lower gears works better with steady throttle when the bike is not pulling under load. I've also notice over the years that shift assist in ...

Re: Long time, no post - a couple questions
3.) For the life of me I can't get a consistent shift assist from 1-2 and 2-3. Sometimes I hit it, sometimes not. It's weird. Lower RPMs seem to be the key but even then it's hit or miss. I won der if there has been any updates for better shifting. I do most of my own maintenance so only get the 'N...

Re: possible convert from ST1300
I would appreciate the extra power of the K1600 once in every 20 rides - but I appreciate the lower weight of the boxer RT on every single ride. I really think 1 up, the 1250 is a match for the RT in terms of power to weight (in fact I think it is better than it...by a smidge). In terms o...

I would say that it would make sense to get the bike re-mapped to get the best out of it anyway.

Re: possible convert from ST1300
Doing your own servicing will devalue the bike when you come to sell it. Most looking for a used BMW consider a full dealer history as a must have. Of course, the impact of this on older bikes is diminished. Not fo...

Re: possible convert from ST1300
Shift assist is one feature on the bike I could live without. I tried to use it but never really got on with it. Seems to work on downshifts better for me but I'm always left thinking what's the point? I use it...but could live without it. The thing that struck me most comparing a 2017 RT and my 12...

Re: possible convert from ST1300
If shift assist was greatly improved I would not use it on earlier model. But hit and miss but does get better with miles and experience. Abs pro also added but never used. I personally don't see much difference between shit assist on 2014 vs 2017. They were both good when used as designed (WOT gea...

Re: Does anyone know what this missing fastener maybe?
Fastener names are known by those who install them regularly. Aircraft owners dont always know about Jo Bolts and Hi-Loks Now we know what Fillister Heads are.. Every day’s a school day. But we don't, because fillister head screws in theory are like slotted domed cheesehead machine screws. However,...
