Re: Quiet helmet recommendations?

Shoei RF-1200.  Fits just right, on the snug see, but the wind roar is absolutely prodigious.  Since buying it I use the best ear plugs I can find.  I bought it when I was on an F800GT which has no wind protection for your shoulders on up.  I can ride my RTW w/o p...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request

The bike's amazing, chiseled right out a block of raw perfection.  Oh it's got a few things you might tweak a little, but what an awesome package.  Incredible handling, ample power, excellent comfort, excellent tech.  At first I thought RTW looked a little ungainly.&nb...

Re: Tyre pressures fully loaded

12k is a very high mileage even for a front.  Half that is normal for most.  I think being told to increase the pressure way above the recommended was wrong. The recommendations are given for a reason.  A tyre that deforms after only 2K I would consider defective and you ...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request

We spent an entire day crosswind speeds in the 30-35mph w/ gusts to 45mph range while riding thru southern Minnesota.  RTW was phenomenal in handling, including w/ all of the turbulence coming from big rigs.  I must admit I'm comparing against a '13 F800GT but truly RTW is fabulous...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request

An interesting idea/concept with one (potentially) fatal flaw: If there are multiple side roads then someone might interpret you are going to turn earlier than you actually are and pull out in front of you! Of course, but that is where YOU decide when it's time to turn on the signal early and when ...

Re: Tyre pressures fully loaded

We're off on a big European trip next week and the bike will be fully loaded, 50L top box and both panniers. I'll also be carrying a pillion. What do people recommend re tyre pressures? Same as the handbook or increase by a few psi, especially the rear? Thanks John I did 9,163 miles on a '16 RT w/ ...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request

I should have clarified on the self-cancelling directionals - I know that the BMW does self cancel... eventually! It just seems to take forever. I also went out again today and really played around with the Gear Shift Pro. I generally find that shifting from 1 to 2 to 3 can be done fairly smoothly ...

Re: Seems to be getting harder to get from 1st to 2nd gear

Recently popped into the BMW dealer in Berlin. BMW are recommending that oil level should be half way up sight glass for optimum gear change experience. Next oil change I'm going back up to the MAX fill line and see if I can tell any difference.  When the bike was new 12,700 miles ago, it ...

Nope, the mag was Summer 2015, not that you would let yourself be swayed by that, or any other new information. :not:

Re: Seems to be getting harder to get from 1st to 2nd gear

Screen captured from where I read about the oil fill level at the mid point of the sight glass. This wet clutch implementation has its own charm, ahem..., but once you get down how to live w/ its shortcomings it gets the job done well.  I don't like the N>1st clunk, so I keep the bike in 1s...

Re: Seems to be getting harder to get from 1st to 2nd gear

Thanks for responding. In my case, it's not oil level as the oil level is under the top of the circle.  It would be nice if it were an easy answer like that 🙂. There has been mention I think from an article in a BMW publication that optimal oil filling for best shifting and clutch behavior...

Re: Tire Pressure

Just installed Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT tires on my 2015 R1200RT.  BMW dealer put pressures at 36 psi rear and 30 psi front.  R1200Rt manual has these at 42 psi rear and 36 psi front.  Dealer pressures seem low.  No low pressure error codes on the console and see...

Ok - one last post on this and then I'm done... 1.  I've never scoffed at modern electronic rider aids - exactly the opposite, I've said I'm all in favor. >>Good for you, you'd be an idiot to discount new technologies out of hand. 2.  I've never questioned what C-ABS might do. >>S...
