Re: Is it some sort of law?
No point spending all that money and only using it for a rew months a year. Bikes are for riding.

Re: Is it some sort of law?
What on earth is all this nonsense, not riding in the rain and "waiting for the season to start". Word that springs to mind is wimps, as everyone I ride with, ride all year sunshine, rain, Cloud or fog. Only exception is snow and ice. But then most of the folk I ride with are oldies, so pr...

Re: Blown gearbox
Thought I'd post an update. My mechanic friend has now stripped the box. The rear gearbox casing has been cracked and holed, explaining the oil loss. Once the gears were removed input shaft was in two halves. Examination suggests that the shaft has failed in the past and been bodged in order to enab...

Re: Return to riding
I'm 5' 6", 164lbs with 282 inseam and have no problems. with the standard seat on the low setting I can get both feet on the ground easily. As for the weight, yes the R1200rt is heavy, but it's low down weight that is easily managed and once rolling it's very stable. My advice would be, go for ...

Re: Blown gearbox
Until it's stripped extent of the damage cannot be assessed. Fortunately a friend who is a top line motorcycle mechanic has agreed to do the work. So it's wait and see. best case is a blown seal, worse is a replacement gearbox from Motorworks at around £500.00 plus labour. I'll update one ...

Re: Blown gearbox
Given the noises that were coming from it and the rate the oil was leaking I fear it's something far more serious.

Blown gearbox
Went for a ride on my 35000 mile 2005 this morning and pulling away from a junction went through 1st, 2nd and 3rd OK. Shifting to 4th nothing happened. Couldn't downshift so coasted to a stop with horrible noises coming from the gearbox and transmission oil pouring out. Suggestions please?

Re: What did you do today?
Not today but yesterday. Home in Birmingham to the Elan Valley via Kidderminster, tenbury Wells, Prestiegne, and Rhayader. A brew whilst watching millions of gallons of water overflowing the dam above the visitors centre then up the A470 to Llangurig, lunch at the Riverside cafe, right beside the ri...

Re: About the brain bucket!
Agree 100% Simba. In fact in rain it's downright dangerous, reducing visibility to zero. I've swapped to a Shoei Neotec which is lighter, better ventilated, more comfortable and has pinlock. Oh, and you can ride in the rain!

I've tried watching a few of his video's and may have commented on one of them (perhaps it was me who upset him?). I lasted about 30 seconds on the one at the start of this post before ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
