Re: Suspension Query

Better handling than what - ESA? If that's what you mean, I'm not sure I agree. It may be the case that the components in an after-market set-up (Ohlins or otherwise) would be better quality and for an expert rider there may be a difference at the limit. If you dig into the menus for ESA though, ca...

Re: Suspension Query

Hi Our gee,  I'm guessing you are thinking of the old twin shock bikes where you compress or preload the spring on each shock to account for heavy loads and pillions (many 70/80's twin shocks had these). They had the adjustable stepped collar to do this, and of course you make the spring sh...

Re: I am detecting a 'flat-spot' when my 2014 RT is under accelleration.

I had a similar 'issue' with my GS Lc when accelerating hard. Then I noticed the traction control light flashing at the point the bike felt a little flat. Switched the traction off, no flatspot but it picks the front wheel up in the first couple of gears. Could it be the electronics just doing their...

Re: Touring Boots

Agree, I wouldn't be happy with a £60 lid, but the tests are independent so it's a bit unfair to compare them with VW. Are we just being snobs though, supporting overpriced products that are actually no better than ones half the price? The evidence out their suggests that maybe we are. I love my 15k...

Re: Touring Boots

The point is that all protective kit is equal - right up until the point when you need it to protect you. There's a reason why some helmets cost £500 and some cost £50 and some boots cost £350 and some cost £35... Not really regarding helmets. This data makes interesting reading and concludes a £60...

Re: Crash protection

You can't help yourself can you? They may be plastic but do the job better than the BMW ones. Look at the pic of the crashed RT ones. See the scuff marks higher up? That's where the RT has rolled on its head. BMWs own ones would leave the head damaged. I know it may be an alien concept to you, bit B...

Re: Crash protection

The X heads are just plastic and cover the tops of the cylinder heads that could not touch down unless the bike was upside down. They could not be incorporated with the BMW cylinder protectors. Here we go again, if it isn't BMW it must be rubbish blah blah. The x-heads do fit with BMW's crash bars....

Re: Crash protection

X-heads for me.
Have a look here.  http://machineartmoto.com/x-heads-durability/
If I was to get crash bars I would agree with Mr BMW above. I believe the x-heads can be combined with them.

Re: OK - I admit it, I'm tempted...

I only have room for one bike, so it has to do a bit of everything. I do a mix of riding: - a weekly 70 mile each-way commute - weekend/evening fun rides, say 50-75 miles - IAM observing - weekend tours (say 250 miles a day for 3 days) I also do an annual long-distance tour. If it's in Europe, I'll...

Re: OK - I admit it, I'm tempted...

True - I don't think anybody ever bought a GS for its looks! That's true of the older ones, but I quite like the look of the LC's. When I bought my 1150gs (pre charlie and McGregor) they were not a common site. Kids would stare and point, it had that Tonka Toy look. Yes, ugly, but also different, w...

Re: OK - I admit it, I'm tempted...

I traded my 2011 TC RT for a 1200gs triple black last month. I tried the RT WC, a fine bike, but as you say a lump and, for me, the GS wins on handling. I really didn't want a GS, it's like a CBR600 of the 90's, every t@#t has one. But they are popular for very good reason. As long as you don't go f...

Re: DataTag Found

Judging by the very modest insurance discounts, that would tend to suggest insurers don't hold Data Tag in high regard? and the cost of buying is not outweighed by the insurance discount. I believe it's more of an age/experiance thing to be honest. I no longer declare any other additional security ...

Re: Good place to mount video cam?

You could try an SJ4000 from eBay. Looks like a GoPro and is nearly as good according to reviews. ..... but a lot cheaper. Highly recommended for a great value cam that can also use genuine go-pro and ram mounts. I have been using mine for 18 months now with no issues and use the footage as feedbac...
