Re: What type of Sealant?

Hi David, After doing a search of this grease (to see where I might get it) it appears its an assembly grease and this is actually what BMW use on the splines of the transmission shaft (according to a couple of websites). The remains of the sealant that is currently on the edges of my rubber boot is...

What type of Sealant?

Hi Guys,

For anyone who has had their Final Drive apart on a  R1200RT Wethead, what type of sealant did you use to reseal the rubber boot located forward of the final drive? I'm told its supposed to be a silicon based sealant but I'm not sure what type to use.

Cheers

Re: 2014 R1200RT Final Drive Spline Grease - Help!

Hi Bighopper,

Managed to remove without heating fairly easily....of course it was tight but it didn't present any real problems.

Cheers

Re: 2014 R1200RT Final Drive Spline Grease - Help!

The large torx bolt is likely to be a T55, the plastic cover needs to be prised out, revealing a hexhead pivot pin. Thanks David for the great pics....... https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/T0IAAOSwB-1YuXBv/s-l1600.jpg Re: 2014 R1200RT Final Drive Spline Grease - Help! https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/fB...

Re: 2014 R1200RT Final Drive Spline Grease - Help!

Many thanks for the help guys. Is that pivot bolt definitely a T55? Unfortunately I don't have anything larger than a T50 at the moment so I've ordered a T55 and a T60 in the hope one or the other will fit. Since with the Christmas break I won't get the necessary tools until early Jan I will try to ...

Re: 2014 R1200RT Final Drive Spline Grease - Help!

Hi Jim, yes, I've got the JVB video for the R1200 LC which as you say is mainly covering the GS. Unfortunately it doesn't cover Final drive removal only filling. Cheers David

2014 R1200RT Final Drive Spline Grease - Help!

Hi Guys, I'm in the process of trying to grease the final drive spline. Unfortunately the spline is ceased and instead of the UJ splitting at the final drive end it has pulled out of the gearbox end! I think my only option now is to remove the final drive assembly completely. There is one very large...

Re: Exhaust Flap Seizing

Thanks MacJ.....

After lubing and exercising, the valve now cycles fully open and closed when ignition is operated so I'll call it good.....

Thanks for the help guys....

Re: Exhaust Flap Seizing

Hi B787 Mech, I found the valve! When the ignition is off it is in the fully open position, and moves to the half open position for about 1 second then back to fully open position when the ignition is selected ON. Should the valve cycle to the 'fully closed' position upon ignition on? If so, that wi...

Exhaust Flap Seizing

Hi Guys, I just took my 2014 R1200RT to the dealers for an MOT, and since I mainly so my own servicing, I asked them to check the software was up to date and if there were any fault codes present. The said there was one fault code for a seizing Exhaust Flap! I'm not sure where this flap is but presu...
