Re: R1200RT TC
Also different clocks on the TC and from approx 2011 onwards the crappy fuel strip was replaced with the reliable float type. Final drives are also more robust and easier to change the fluid on later oil heads.

Re: 2017 RT diffs - transmission shaft and bearing - any prior issues?
Yes, your right, lots of info about the pump seal taking a while to bed in, and in most cases the weep disappears. Unfortunately mine didn't and even popped the little piece of foam they stick in the hole out, so they are going ahead with a pump change. No quibbles of course. Interestingly the 2017 ...

Re: 2017 RT diffs - transmission shaft and bearing - any prior issues?
There is loads of information out there about crunching and clunking gears, bikes jumping forward, poor clutch disengagement, inability to find neutral etc. Certainty enough for BMW to try and address the issues with a revised design. The link in this thread describing methods about how to improve g...

Re: New 2017 gearbox clunk free.
I'm a new Forum member and potentially new 2016 R1200RT owner. As I've been researching the RT for months, I continue to run into articles, forums, etc. with same issue - tranny clunk! Having no prior experience with RT's or BMW's for that matter, (1) how serious is this clunk, (2) what causes the ...

Re: New 2017 gearbox clunk free.
That's a good point about the early bikes. The 2013 gs had some problems with the clutch not properly disengaging, which was addressed with modifications. I'm not sure if the heavier flywheel would make much difference though? Later standard gs's had the same heavier flywheel as the RTs/GS...

Re: New 2017 gearbox clunk free.
Boys, time to stop whining about the gear box. I'm just back from 2,500 miles across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia on a GSLC. Gear box makes the RTLC box feel like one of Japan's finest... But is the exact same gearbox and engine on both. Cured mine totally (earplugs and Bluetooth musi...

Re: New 2017 gearbox clunk free.
That's interesting. The modifications were supposed to sort it out, but I don't think I have ever had a wet clutch bike that didn't clunk into first. I guess we have been spoilt with the later 1150/1200 oil heads and their dry clutch. I took my old 1150 out yesterday and it really is a nice gearbox ...

Your right of course, are they trying to completely remove all the boxer character! RTman10 wrote: No clunk, ee gads, that's a disaster, even less for your money.
At least with the clunk you can be certain it's in gear. ;D

New 2017 gearbox clunk free.
Initial reports show that the clunk into first has been eliminated, neutral is easy to find, and all further gear changes are silent and smooth. My 2016 always clunks into first, but otherwise changes gear just fine, so no rush to buy the latest model just yet. How about other LC owners? H...

Re: Seems to be getting harder to get from 1st to 2nd gear
Is it still under warranty? You should not have to shift at certain revs, preload the gear lever or anything, that's unacceptable. Back to BMW if it was me. My 2016 clonks into first (bit almost all other brands do that as well), but after that shifts up and down quietly at any revs and any gear. Ne...

Re: RT v GS
I went from RT to GS. As mentioned already, the GS does come accross as a ' 'wanabe Charlie McGregor' round the world bike' and it is cringeworthy when the owners dress in full BMW Rallye apparel (twat suits) with their massive beer guts......but it is a really good bike. As RT man suggests, try a G...

Re: Suspension Query
Ever get the feeling bikes are getting too complicated? Yes, I agree with that. Technological advancements are great.....until they have been exposed to winter for a few years. Still, I've always got my Triumph Tiger Cub. No electronics at all. Points and a condenser is as complex as it gets. Even ...

Re: Suspension Query
I think you are pretty much there DD. As the write up says, the shock is basically a dual spring item, with one of the springs being a lump of elastomer, basically a lump of rubber. The ESA action raises or lowers the overall ride height by compressing or uncompressing this. At the same time it look...
