Why no ABS Pro for R1200RT?

Post by subspace100 »

I currently ride an F800GT, which I enjoy, but I've been wanting to move up to the new R1200RT.  There's just 1 thing that irks me, and has prevented me from making the leap...  BMW hasn't offered it with ABS Pro.

I understand the R1200GS/A is available with ABS Pro, and several other BMWs can have ABS Pro added via a retrofit package.  I just wish the R1200RT was allowed to have this top-of-the-line ABS system as well.  I assume they think allowing this would cannibalize sales of the 1600...?

What are others' thoughts as to why the R1200RT isn't offered with ABS Pro?

Assisted braking on cornering with pulsing brake light under heavy braking above a certain speed...?? Nah, not for me if it was offered as an option. Another grand on the price perhaps...??  As you say, if BMW started offering it on the R12RT as an option, K16 sales may be hit further?
Pulsing brake light, but make it high-level (a la top box style) ? Possibly, as that would hopefully get attention from inattentive cagers behind you (or would it...??).

Probably a reasonable option on a 190 bhp supersport bike and maybe useful on serious offroad stuff but not on a super stable tourer. And the RT as good as killed off the 1600 as soon as it was launched
