RT1200RT LC Handlebar risers

Post by yellowjacket »

I recently purchased a 2016 R1200RT LC. I have put about 1000 miles on it in the past week and need some advice. After riding a Harley most of my life I am having issues with leaning forward on the BMW. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good set of handlebar risers for the LC. I would like to move the bars back and up just a little for a more upright ride.

There is definitely a thread here somewhere about risers,  I'm sure DayglowDavid will dig it out for you.

Did you buy or rent the special tool needed for this modification?

I didn't use or need the special tool. I simply used a heat gun (the wife's expensive hairdryer) on the bar clamp, and gently knocked the bar out using a screwdriver and mallet.
The whole job took less than 30mins.

Thanks for the info. I may order a set today because I need a little more height in my sitting position. I installed the Werks Quiet Ride windshield yesterday and it is like riding a different bike. Very little wind noise compared to stock windshield. With the risers, I should be in business.

My pleasure. these risers are excellent quality and give loads of lateral adjustment to suit your reach. I also have the Wunderlich touring screen which is also bloody good.

I put the Ilium Works on my RTW.  They definitely help, although I wish they would come back more.  I needed more back than up.  Unfortunately the brake reservoir keeps the right hand set from going back level if you angle back too much.
