2016 (16 plate) R1200RT LE FOR SALE! Price reduced further to £13460.

Post by Rusty-pie »

I have just received my formal offer of employment so my plan to relocate down under is going ahead.

Unfortunately australian laws regarding the import of private use vehicles are very strict, and the total of shipping cost, registration fees and import duties is too high, so my 3 months old pride and joy is up for sale, just to be replaced with an identical bike as soon as get there!

It is a 2016 production R1200RT LE with Dynamic package in metallic platinum bronze (2016 colour) and black engine casing and driveshaft. Registered on the 5th of March this year on a 16 plate. As all of you already know, the LE is the top of the range model, and having the Dynamic package means that the bike has all the possible optional extras, except for the radio and keyless ride. With this level of equipment and accessories, the bike would cost over £16,500 new.

It was bought from and looked after by the great guys at CW Motorcycles in Dorchester. It has just over 6800 miles on the clock and has just had its second service done at CW, which also fitted a fresh set of Michelin PR4 GT tyres less than 100 miles ago.

It has BMW engine head covers fitted at purchase, and will come with a brand new regular height seat never used before, as it was swapped prior to delivery with a high seat. Obviously it will carry the reminder of its 24 months BMW warranty and emergency services.

The bike is currently located in Southampton.

Price reduced further to £13460.

Please feel free to pm me to ask any question.

Fancy spending all that money on such a great bike - and then fitting cheap BWM head covers, instead of genuine BMW ones...

Further price reduction to £13,460...... Come on, there must be someone tempted! Only selling it because I have to, I would snatch it straight away!  :)

No offence but I think it's far too dear. I've been trying unsuccessfully, though I've used only an ad on this forum's classified and not ebay etc., to sell mine for £12,000.

It's a bit older than yours, August 15 when I bought it new, in ebony metallic but has less than 1,000 miles at present and the first annual service done, plus more extras than yours with the radio and keyless ride and aux lights. It cost over £17,000 and is still as new.

I wish you luck but there appears, surprisingly, to be no demand for recent, private sale, perfect condition, low mileage RTs at any kind of reasonable price compared with new. I'm not under pressure as you are to sell, so would rather keep mine than let it go for silly money.

Anyway all the best.

you both need to list them on ebay. you will reach lots more potential buyers. only a small number of people (who already own RTs) will look at this forum

In response to the two previous posts, my RT is on eBay, and is priced at least £1000 pounds less that similar bikes sold by dealers, which I believe is a fair price for a 5 months old bike with still 19 months remaining of the original manufacturer warranty; for a vehicle of such age buying from a dealer would not give you much more confidence than buying from a private. I do understand the dealers can offer credit facilities that I do not have, and that for such an expensive bike this could make a difference for many people, hence the lower price.

In all truth, when I decided to buy an RT I looked at nearly-new bikes first but could not find anything around so new for 3 grand less then the list price, otherwise I would have bought a used one without thinking twice.

The RT forum is just an additional advertising channel I am using in case a member decides to upgrade to a newer model.

it's hard selling a bike over £3,000 on ebay. people want to test-ride and they want the warranty and security/finance options of a dealer.

selling is a waiting game. a buyer will come along, but it might take 6 months. i have seen a number of overpriced bikes in dealers, they sit there for months and months and suddenly, it's sold. i'm not saying yours is overpriced, but i think you will have to wait unless you really slash the price to something really daft

as a comparison look at this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-R-1200-RT ... Sw2x1XKcF2

it's slightly older and more miles (but that's not much on a bike like this)

you could probably get this for £12,500

i think if you need to sell your bike within a month you need to price it at £11,500

some dealers will place a private sellers bike in their showroom, ie they sell it for you. you choose the price and they take a one-off fee or a percentage commission.

Well, it has been sold to a BMW dealer who offered more than what it was suggested it was worth for a private sale. That means that somebody is going to buy it for it a grand more than what I was asking. Go figure!

Glad you were able to sell it.  I tried selling an F800gs so I could buy my R1200rt.  The bike was just about a year old and I was going to take a soaking on it.  I had a few looks, but nothing serious and ended up trading it in for a lot less than what I thought it was worth.  I did get the R1200rt after all.  Selling a BMW motorcycle is a lot harder than selling a Suzuki or a Kawasaki.  a BMW is a niche bike and not everyone wants to ride one.  Around here you can find bikes for sale on the street corner on any given day.  Problem is, we like our BMWs and are willing to pay more for them.  Most folks don't.

Have fun in Australia.... it's on my wish list of places to go and ride.

most people are very reluctant to spend 13k in a private sale. too much risk of getting ripped off, or getting robbed.

most people prefer dealers as they can test ride the bike, they know its hpi/finance free, a dealer can arrange a finance deal, and if it breaks down the next day, they know a dealer will sort it out.
