A good ride that we often use from the Ponderosa (Horseshoe Pass, Llangollen) to Brynrefail (Llanberris) is:
Head north from the Pondersa on the A542. Left at island onto A5104 left onto the A494 (Bala).
At lights (A5), turn left towards Llangollen, in just over 1/2 mile right onto the B4401 (Cynwyd).
Through Llandrillio and continue on the B4401 to the A494, turn left to Bala.
On entering Bala, right onto the A4212 (just after the white bridge).
In about 2 1/2 miles right onto the B4501. Continue to A5.
Left on A5 (Betws y Coed), continue through Betws (staying on A5) to Capel Curig.
Left onto A4086. To stay on this road you have to turn right (Pass of Llanberris).
Follow through Llanberris. There are plenty of eating places in the town, the Snowdon railway and Electric Mountain.
We always head for the Caban at Brynrefail LL55 3NR.
Continue through Llanberris and right onto the A4244.
In about 1/4 mile take the second right then left onto village. Turn right into car park behind Caban.
I'll post the return ride to Oswestry next.

Brynrefail (Llanberris) to Oswestry and Llangollen
From the Caban, back along the A4086 through Llanberris to junction with A498.
Right onto the A498, Beddgelert, keep on A498.
In about 1 1/4 miles left over bridge onto A4085.
Left onto the B4410, don't miss it, it just after a left bend. There are a few shops just past the turn. If you see the shops, you've just missed the turn.
Continue down the B4410 to junction with A487.
There is a very nice hotel/pub on the left at this junction, The Oakley Arms Hotel, free cup cake with teas and coffees.
Left, after tea, onto A487, follow onto A470 (Trawsfynydd).
At Trawsfynydd left onto A4212 to Bala. A very nice 18mile ride.
In Bala turn right and immediate left onto the B4391. On the left there are toilets in the large car park.
Continue on the B4391 to Llangynog.
This section is one of the best rides in Wales over the Berwyn Hills. Very steep drop on right throughout part of the ride. Excellent scenery and views.
In Llangynog, choice of two pubs for refreshments.
Continuing through Penybontfawr. Just under 1 mile turn left onto the B4396 (Oswestry).
Through Langedwyn (Green Inn pub on left after village), through Llanyblodwel to crossroads at A483 (Llynclys).
Left onto A483 (Oswestry) to roundabout at A5.
Left onto A5 and follow signs for Llangollen, Horseshoe Pass, Ponderosa.

If you've got time, try the B4358 from Beulah to Newbridge-on-Wye.  It's only 8.5 miles, but a brilliant ride of twists and turns, ups and downs and with very little traffic.  Just don't try to go too quickly; there are a few surprises...

On your way to Ross go via Chepstow and Tintern Abbey (A466). Nice roads plus take in a bit of history. Symonds Yat is also well worth a small detour.

Thanks guys for the pointers.  had a very enjoyable ride out if not numb bum! . Stayed at the Royal hotel in Ross on Wye,  Excellent food and very friendly and great views from the balcony in the evening.

Followed on of the rotes posted(some of it) and up to Elan  Valley dam.  A44 back to Hereford and back to hotel.  Nice visit to Symonds Yat.  Need to go back there with Kayak.

All in all a nice couple of days.
