Looks cool .... Or not?

Looking to get some cylinder protectors and came across these ....

They cost around the same as the BMW ones, give or take.

Not in to bling myself, but they look cool, a nice addition.

As seen on the HP2, these valve covers are carbon fibre, not just a protector.

They/it covers an awful lot that is never going to need any protection but from the picture it doesn't appear to have any additional width or cushioning where the pot would touch down.
Any little spill would probably destroy it instantly.  Looks cool though.

Could always fit a pair of knee sliders like on the HP2 valve covers.

I thought carbon fibre was supposed to be lighter and stronger than most metals?

They seem to divide opinion a little

It probably is, definitely more flexible but it marks quite easily and then is no longer cool.  The one on offer is directly from R & G but I can't see any for sale on their site.
Just found them. You need to go to the RT and not BMW on their site to find them.
Don't understand why they are selling just one on Ebay. That are about half the price of the OEm ones.

The thing with carbon fibre is that it is extremely strong when stressed in the right direction - i.e. along the fibres - but when stressed in the wrong direction it breaks pretty easily. Just take a look at what happens when the front wings touch on a couple of F1 cars. I could easily be wrong but I suspect those covers would smash the instant you dropped the bike on them. I think they are intended to be cosmetic rather than protective.

If you know who Ena Sharples is: then your age is showing.
I refuse to comment whether I watched Corronation Street or not ;) Bring back Stan Ogden is all I say!

After a bit of consideration I have decided.....

Not to get them.
It may well just be too big a leap of faith to trust them should I drop it. (dropped the last bike twice)
