Crikey - that's shocking!

Is this part of a DEEP winter clean, or do you have a problem to fix?

Bit of both really. Although it can't be seen very well in the picture the Alternator is coated in thick salt fur. So as well as a "deep clean" I removed the said Alternator for cleaning / painting. Other than that I do like to know just what does "lurk" underneath and it does fill in those long winter periods. Incidently the picture was taken during winter 2015 / 2016.

Looks good to me. Are you going to protect it with ACF50 ?

Thanks for posting the photo Mike.

Just stripped my RT ready for ACF-50 treatment. Was considering removing the tank, but don't think there is too much to be gained in doing so. The tank is full of fuel.
Initially, I was a bit dubious about the electrical & fuel connections. On second viewing, they look fairly straight forward to disconnect.

Unless the tank needs to be removed for maintenance reasons, I'd probably leave it in place.

Removal is straight forward and no more than a ten minute job. Two bolts each side, the quick release fuel connections, breather tubing (NOTE as well as the breather tube located next to the Fuel connections there is another hidden under the Tank centre panel just forward of the Fuel filler cap area (see picture below) which has a handy push connector located behind and below the "Glove Box" lock cylinder and a couple of electrical plugs. David mentions a full tank of fuel which would be a problem, very, very heavy. Apparently it is possible to "snag" the cable from the cruise control on re-fitting but I have never had a problem.
