Rubber care

Post by timminator »

What do you use to clean and preserve the rubber pieces on your RT?  I'm referring mostly to the dust boots on the swing-arm, but there are other flexible pieces as well.  The manual discourages the use of silicon-based products: "Rubber parts - Treat rubber parts with water or BMW rubber protection coating agent. ATTENTION - Use of silicone sprays for care of rubber seals. Damage to rubber seals. Do not use silicone sprays or care products that contain silicone."

Silicone dissolves rubber, mate. That's why you use water-based lube with rubber ;)
Just low-pressure wash would do the trick.
What is your major malfunction, numbnuts!?

Me too, plus any nuts, bolts or other fasteners can get a coating of ACF-50 from the oily rag whilst applying to the black areas.

I use Gummi Pflege on my RT and on my cars' rubber seals.

WD-40 Multi-Use works well and does not contain silicone.
