BMW R1200RT Alarm

Post by guest4915 »

I'm just in the process of sorting out the insurance for my shortly to arrive R1200RT LE. Am I correct in thinking it comes with an alarm as standard and if so, what type is it for the purpose of the insurance declaration. Also, do BMs have Datatag or Smartwater type ID?

Thanks in advance

Are you talking about a new, 2017, bike ?
If so, I would suggest talking to the supplying dealer to get the best information, but my LE has a BMW alarm (factory fit) and Datatag (dealer fit).
My 4th R1200RT = 2016 (2017 MY) R1200RT LE

All new bikes from 2014 come with data tag. My 2014 LE has an alarm.

Yes it's new and presumably a factory fit BMW alarm. It's just a case of finding out what standard it is for insurance purposes as they list any number.

Most insurance companies will have an option for 'manufacturer alarm/immobilizer'.
