Paint flaking on my 07 RT

Post by Harlequin »

Hi all

Has anybody else here dealt with paint flaking on swingarm, and foot rest plates?

Be good to hear from you.

Cheers

The powder coating on the footrest plates of the older bikes is laughably thin. As soon as the coating is punctured by a random flying stone the corrosion can start, so it needs to be covered in ACF50 or similar all the time.
After two sets or replacement footrest hangers under warranty, I had them powder-coated locally. With 10-times the original thickness, these lasted for the remaining life of the bike!

Silver 'smooth' Hammerite is supposed to be a good match if respraying.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

We're talking about 8 or 9 years ago now and things may have changed....

I was offered an "easy-to-get-a-good-finish" battleship grey or a "more-difficult" silver. The silver would have been a much better match but I went with the grey.

Nowadays, I might take them to my local wheel refurbishment centre.
