RT STOLEN - just now...

Post by richardbd »

Please keep a look out for BMW R1200RT LC registration number FT64 FOH, taken from Beddington Lane, Croydon.

Not my bike but it was parked outside a friend's house for about 40 minutes.

Reported to Police so ANPR can try to find it if its being ridden...

Sorry to hear about that, even if is not your bike, it makes you think about it.
Have a few questions, if you don't mind: was the bike often parked there?
What time it was? Known to be a bad neighborhood? Did he at least, lock
the steering? Was it in plain view?
A professional will steel almost any bike, as long as he has an order for.
I tend to believe it was kids pushing it away and it will be found a few days later
dumped.

On streetview the road looks like it has a lot of light industry on it, not many houses

Yikes!! On this side of the pond bmw’s are like 90 out of the top 100 stolen bikes, my guess bike is already “parted out” or in a shipping container headed out of country
Really hope the miscreets are caught and owner has good insurance

Exactly! Not fussy.....Any bike that can be broken down for spares. In the Bristol area, the scumbags take great ‘pride’(?) in regularly stealing mopeds and small cc lightweight bikes, burn them and then show off on social media! Police reaction? Well, it appears the A&S constabulary are now acting with local  biker groups to get a grip on this intolerable situation, preferably with a choking grip around the scumbags throats!!

Here it's mostly small commuter bikes, moto x and sports bikes that are targeted. Either for riding around fields or breaking down for parts. I also think a percentage are disposed of by owners for insurance claims purposes.

Good news, still a bit of a shame it wasn't found in a ditch laid on top of the arsehole who stole it and who subsequently died of hyperthermia...

Sadly my bike has not been recovered. The insurance guys told me they reckon it is out of the country by now. Apparently a container was opened at Felixstowe recently and 30 bikes were found behind a false container bound for the eastern bloc.

Usually they come around with a pickup and 3 or 4 guys throw it in the back and takeoff.
Those disc locks are totally useless.

Not totally true, on another forum one of the guys was discussing bike thefts with a couple of police officers and they said use a disc lock as the eastern European gangs look for easy targets, so if they see a disc lock they will move onto another target. So IMHO, its better to have one, than not.

they interviewed a thief on there and he said they tend to avoid bikes that are under cover, have disc locks on, chained up etc as it takes them more time, so they just move on, and look for easier targets.
