BMW used double skinned headers on the R1200C.  Gave them up after about 4 years along with the bike.  They were very heavy, pipes and the bike.

Unlike the BMW R1200C header pipes, the Yamaha ones don't rattle either, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrmHoKNvFZg

Hard to believe, such a nice and expensive bike, with crappy headers like that...
Wouldn't hesitate to ceramic coat them.  Although i wonder if anybody has had
them chromed by a professional?

That certainly reduces the colour change effect. However the weight goes up. Weight is the enemy of most of us. It is also more expensive. You won't see that as a solution from BMW.
