FNG!

Post by petefinlay »

Hi Guys,
Just like to say hello as I have just joined the forum.
I own a 2015 RT & love it. I'm not new to BM's, my first one was a 1985 R65LS followed by a 1996 R100R. At the time I had the R100R, I also had a 2015 Triumph Sprint. Both bikes were great but also had their disadvantages, especially for two up touring. So last August, both bikes went for what I consider the best touring bike available, the R1200RT SE.

My only complaint is that I love to tinker with my bikes. Both my earlier BM's got a lot of work done to them along with a BSA B50SS I restored at the same time (now also sold). But I can't find anything needing done to the RT!
I have fitted Wonderlich pillion dirt guards, a bargain at £75 for two bits of plastic that now only reduce the crap on my Wife's boots by 50%!
Currently fitting Bike Bro front & rear "dash-cam" cameras in case I'm unlucky enough to avoid the prat's who regularly pull out on us bikers. At least with the cameras fitted there is less chance of hassle from insurance companies in the event of a claim.
I am in Glenrothes, Fife & always keen to meet up with other BM owners if you are in the area.

Cheers,

Pete

Hello Pete and welcome to the forum. Any chance you could detail and/or show how you set up the two bike cams, as I’m considering doing something similar? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.  :)
Good choice of bike, agree it's the best touring bike available.  ;)
I'm not far from Glenrothes, just waiting to be able to get my bike out of hibernation .....  8)

Cheers.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the kind words.
Steve F, here is the camera I'm fitting to my bike;

https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/buy/bik ... /25144.htm £150

I had to order the handlebar button & the power module for a canbus system from the dealer who supplies J & S; £30 for both.

http://www.nortek.co.uk/bike-bro-dual-c ... cycle-dvr/

I also had to buy a 32GB mini SD card at £20.
Nortek are no longer doing this camera but will support existing customers.
You will find the same camera on Ebay for as little as £55. But this is coming straight from China and I am told the difference is the loaded "Firmware"!?
When I start up the camera controller, the Nortek symbol comes up, so I do believe this to be true.
The front camera mounts easily under the headlight using the sticky pad & the rear camera goes under the rear box frame. But i had to cut one of the webs in the moulding. The control unit sits under the seat with the canbus power unit.
I have fabricated a sealed cell foam box for the controller that has enough room under the seat as I have the seat at the higher position.
I had to remove all the panels from one side to neatly run the cables, not too difficult.
I'll post some photo's when it's all finished.

Gogs01, Where about are you?

Cheers,

Pete

Sorry I missed your question before - I'm in Dundee.

I'm heading down to Yorkshire on the bike on Monday, then I have a trip planned to Jerez to watch the MotoGP on 6th May (setting off from Dundee on 30th April).

How's the camera working out ?

I'm stopping overnight in Barnard Castle (off the A66), meeting some friends for lunch in Pateley Bridge, then heading for home Tuesday afternoon / evening.

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the comprehensive info. It looks like a good set up, and not unreasonably priced. One for me to think about......Cheers.
