Got any questions about the BMW's R1200RT/R1250RT's onboard audio, Bluetooth or the Electrical system?

Heated Seat

Post by horand »

Hi RT Experts

Question
I have just bought a heated seat on eBay and would like to know how to fit it and then switch it on and off.
There appears to be a plug-in point under the seat?
Assuming this is correct do I switch on and off from the wonder wheel.
Does the system recognize this fitting and therefore offer options to turn on and off from the wonder wheel.
My bike is a 2016 LC.
Would welcome guidance.
Many Thanks
David

For clarity the seat I have bought is a front seat and the plug in point appears to be under the rear seat.

If you have a 17RT, heated seats come standard
Connector should be mounted on bottom of seat, pigtail should be about 12 inches long
As for control, the front seat is controlled by the outboard switch on left handle bar
Toggle down to seat heat, then use wonder wheel to select temperature desired

Hi T6Pilot

Thanks for your response.
My bike was registered at the end of November 2016. I am informed that it is the 2017 model and as such it is Metallic Platinum Bronze which I believe is one of the 2017 colours? I recently bought this bike from a dealer in England.
There is no heated seat fitted to this bike. As per my previous post there is an unused type plug under the rear seat. Is this to power a heated seat or something else?
Regards
David

Not true for UK spec SE models - even in 2018: seat heating is an extra.

You would need to talk to dealer about your issue. There is a diagnostic port somewhere under the rear seat, I believe.

The standard heated seats are switched on via the wonderwheel - just like the heated grips. You may need a dealer to code this feature into your bike.

Hope this helps/

Heated Seat

Hi John

Following your kind response I noticed a second plug-in option under the rear seat? If one is the diagnostic plug-in what's the other?

I'll try to take a decent photo and will post soon.

The diagnostic connector is a large round plug/socket.The seats connect to a small rectangular/square connector.

Peter

There appears to be 5 plug in points under the rear seat of my 2017 RT?
There is no large round type connector.
There are 3 x long/small rectangular open connectors and 2 x shorter/fatter square rounded closed connectors.

See photos.

Maybe BMW are now prewiring the latest bikes for adding options after purchase?

I would welcome opinions. I'll have a word with the BMW dealer on this subject.

Thanks

It's the smaller, two wire rounded rectangle shaped connectors. One for the front seat and one for the rear seat.

Hi Again Peter

Have examined the bike again and there's only one port as you describe with two wires. All other ports have 4 wires with differing colours. Its at the very back of the rear seat compartment facing frontwards. The wires are travelling back towards the back of the bike.
Regarding the owners instructions as per your e-mail there are no ports under the front seat to plug into?

I'll refer this to the BMW Dealer.

Thanks
David
