2009 tyre pressure sensor seal kit

Post by BBT600 »

i had the tyres changed earlier this week on my 2009 RT. Yesterday the rear was flat, pumped it up and went down again. The tyre fitter told me it was leaking around the valve and that it needed a replacement seal kit. Also the external wheel surface has some slight bubbling/corrosion and it might need to be re-coated. Anyone familiar with this problem. The wheel internal surface is an unknown until we get the tyre off, but can’t do that until I have the new seal kit so it’s over to Shipley!! How to waste a Friday !

Have you tried just nipping it up a bit tighter first? I had a slight leak on my rear valve probably two years ago now, and just nipping it up solved the problem.

The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

I`m pretty sure it needs to be held from inside the wheel before it will tighten, but no I didnt try that beforehand. I`ve bought the seal kit now, so I`ll get it fitted and see how we get on.

Isn't it strange that the valve only started to leak after a tyre change ?

The disturbance by changing the tyre definitely caused the leak, but I couldn’t be arsed arguing. I bought the new seal & they removed the tyre & fitted it. Job done, even gave the fitter £10 for a couple o beers 🍺
