Until this week, I've previously been using Windows 7 to successfully update both my device (Zumo 660) & PC. Now on Windows 10 & having problems. I believe that the version of GE to be installed can be selected for older versions of Windows. Therefore, Windows 10 should not be necessary to update maps using GE.

I've found Garmin support to be very helpful, they can be contacted on free phone, 0808 238 0000.

Ah David, you did not previously mention that this was a Windows 10 problem. You may have a Windows Firewall of some sort switched on which is preventing updates on your computer.

Start googling "windows 10 preventing computer update".  I updated to Windows 10 a year or so ago and had some of these problems, though I can't remember if GE was affected.

Good luck.

Fingers crossed, I might have fixed it.

Hadn't tried updating the maps for a few days. Checked Garmin Express & a new version v6.16.0.0 was now available. This GE update also failed & an error of something to do with Microsoft.net Framework popped up. Tried to install the latest version of the framework, only to be told it was already on Windows 10. Decided to uninstall GE v6.15.0.0 & re-install GE, this resulted in v6.16.0.0 being installed. As I type, the maps are now being updated on my PC, it could be a long night.

It's interesting that a new GE update is now available after having had these problems. A friend suggested that Garmin never admit to having any problems with their software. They just issue a new version and hope folks don't notice. Therefore, it was a Garmin problem not one with my PC & the change from Windows 7 to 10.

I'll report back later, when hopefully the new 2020.10 maps will be installed on my PC.

Looks like I wasn't the only one with this problem, https://www.zumouserforums.co.uk/viewto ... f=26&t=453 good old Garmin!

"I have the same problems with both a 550 and a 660. My computer is running Win 10 and all the software is up to date (Garmin Express and unit software). In each case I can download to the unit but not to either unit + PC or to PC Only. I have spent around 30 minutes talking to Garmin support in the UK and sent them a software report. They have agreed there is a problem and have raised a trouble ticket with Garmin USA so it will be some time before they get to work on it given the time difference."

Just got this email from Garmin,

"I am contacting you to advise the issue we had experienced with the map installation to PC with Express has now been resolved, so you can try again and should no longer experience the error."

Surprise, surprise, got the same problem as highlighted previously within this thread, that is,

"Through GE, I selected update both the device & PC at the same time. The device has updated, but the PC didn't."

I wonder how long Garmin will take this time to sort it out with a new version of GE, currently v6.18.0.0.

Anyone know if Garmin have resolved their issues? I've seen the news articles, anyone had first hand experience?

Open up Garmin Express and see if it connects. That’ll tell you if they’re back up.

I’ve just connected my nav5 to the computer and fired up Garmin express. No issues, did a version and map check, all ok.
