Retro fits

Post by mondeoman »

Does anyone know if the corona lights (circular angel eyes) and the high level top box brake light can be retro fitted to a 1650 RT LE ?  I've just purchased a 7 month old one with only 600 miles, it has the top box with central locking and interior light but lacks the actual hi'level brake light. The coronas that circle the twin hi' beam lights are also not there, I wrongly thought that  LE s' had them as standard, turns out they are optional.
I've inquired with a Motorrad dealer and awaiting an answer currently.

I think you'll find the high level brake light is a straightforward retro-fit, the corona lights probably not !

Looks like the Daytime running lights might only be available as part of the "Dynamic package" factory fit option.

Top Box brake light it is 10 minutes job. Very easy to retrofit. Actually plug and play really. As all the wiring is already in the OEM top box.

Thanks to all that replied, Extra thanks to David for the vid/parts #,  I've now heard from Motorrad re' the brake light , total price to supply and fit is £154,  David, if I'm reading your part list info correctly, the brake light kit alone is about the same price as the Motorrad part and fitting price indicating Motorrad would fit it effectively free ?

At over £150 for the part which takes 10 mins to fit, it would be taking the pi$$ to charge for fitting.

Especially if you bought the bike from the same BMW dealer.

You're right David, I've just pulled it apart and sure enough, 10 mins to do, I'll order the kit.
Re' the "corona"  lights,  having had 2 RT's with them I realised I would need to have the switch button on the left to access the "settings" menu and DRL menu plus the internal wiring in that switch cluster plus the software in the ECU to make it work, maybe the wiring is already in the switch cluster and maybe the software is already in the ECU, who knows, motorrad have yet to advise me .

You might even need a different headlight, two are listed, Headlight I or II.
