Clutch Slave Cylinder (Twincam)

Post by Our Gee »

The official line seems to be that the Clutch Slave Cylinder is not re-buildable. Does anyone know if re-build kits (seals etc) are available from a source other than BMW.
Thanks

The clutch slave cylinders are made by Magura might be worth trying to contact them.

Beemer Boneyard have found a European supplier of clutch slave cylinders. I wonder if BB could be a potential source of a rebuild kit.

Super quick reply from Magura this morning.

"Unfortunately we are unable to supply you with spare parts. BMW paid for the tooling and have trade marked most of the parts. Only your BMW Dealer can help with spare parts".

Just noticed David's link to the after market supplier above, well done David.

Interesting reply from Magura, Beemer Boneyard have this quote posted on their website, https://www.beemerboneyard.com/macyreki.html

"DUE TO THE RECENT LAWSUIT BROUGHT BY BMW AGAINST MAGURA, ONCE OUR CURRENT STOCK OF MAGURA PRODUCTS IS GONE WE WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO SELL ANY BMW SPECIFIC MAGURA PRODUCTS."

Beemer Boneyard source their clutch slave cylinders from Motorworks in the UK, they are £115.20, https://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop ... 0&spPage=1

The same unit is £144.11 from BMW, https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-bike ... nth=04#sub

Found this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2jk4zEehdg might be worth keeping for future reference.

The slave cylinder U-ring referred to in the video is 18 x 24 x 4R (CFW N18-15).

Sometimes the seals are known as U-seal or Cup seal.

More evidence from UKGSER that the KTM piston seals will fit the BMW piston, https://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthrea ... r+cylinder

Venhill do this kit made by Magura, https://www.venhill.co.uk/controls-amp- ... 22110.html

It has not yet been confirmed if the piston seals will fit a BMW piston.

Have emailed Magura.

Magura have confirmed the following, "When the clutch system on a KTM bike works with Mineral oil, then the piston kit 0722110 should be the same as the KTM one."

My interpretation of this is that the Magura seals from the Venhill kit (0722110) for £37.75, https://www.venhill.co.uk/controls-amp- ... 22110.html will fit the BMW, as do the seals from the KTM kit (61002032000) for £58.38, https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/view/61002032000

A potential saving of £20 when it's only the seals required.

I sent this to Magura, "This would confirm that the seals in the Magura piston kit 0722110 (available from Venhill in the UK) are the same as those in the KTM kit 61002032000 when the clutch fluid is mineral oil."

Their reply was, "Yes, I can confirm".

Have made an enquiry with Lancashire Seals, https://www.lancashireseals.co.uk/ to see if they can source and supply a clutch slave cylinder seal for less than the one on ebay for £20, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264957474596

Having never fully understood how a master cylinder works, "Google" found this on ST-Riders, http://www.st-riders.net/viewtopic.php?t=1

It mentions brakes but I believe the same applies to clutches.
