Tomtom adapter for Garmin mount 2014 onwards.

Post by Steve398 »

I finally decided I couldn't get on with the Garmin V and chose to return to the Tomtom, but, I still wanted to retain the built-in look on my 2018 RTLC. So after crawling through the internet I found this -

An Italian company who supply the necessary adapter. I ordered it Sunday and with the quick delivery option (6 euro extra) it arrived today (Tues). There's a video showing how to fit, but in essence it takes the power and whatever off the Garmin terminals, so hopefully fit and forget.

I'll update when I get the new TT 550.

All done and fitted, the whole job took about 15 mins. It fires up with the ignition and closes about a minute after the ignition is closed off.

Pros: Easy to fit, and works well. The additional cost of the Italian mod was about £50, and a new TomTom 550 satnav only costs £299, which in total is about the same price as a preowned or half of a new Nav 6.
Cons: The TomTom cannot be locked in position with the Oldtimers gizmo as it will only lock the adapter mount, not the device.

Looks like an easier solution to mine. Wasn't about when I did mine. Nice one. Looks like there is not enough room to take the TomTom off by the normal method, do you have to release the whole adapter to take it off ? If so I'm guessing there is still the security issue.

It’s certainly a very nice set up, but I have to unlock it as per the Garmin, which despite the Oldtimers lock I was never really happy about leaving on the bike except for fuelling.

A very simple and well conceived adapter, and I’m delighted to be back on a Tomtom again. I also appreciate I have lost the multiple information screens available via the Wonder Wheel, but I didn’t really use that anyway and the important stuff like tyre pressures and water temp are still displayed on the dash.
