FROM 6 TO 2

Post by guest2360 »

Got my RT this afternoon.  I have spent the last 3 years on K1600s and having briefly ridden a 2013 RT last year thought I never would again. But when my 365 kg. Exclusive arrived in March and I discovered the wife was sitting about 2ft higher than me I decided enough was enough.
Oh what a delight.  All the goodies I had on my Exclusive and more.  It pushes round my drive like a pram and it aint much slower than a 1600. Sound nicer and what little vibes there are I forgot about after 10 minutes.  Can't wait to get back on tomorrow.

I can only compare it to te 2010&2012 models but yes,  huge difference,  only thing I haven't played around with yet is suspension settings and not tried dynamic yet

If the dynamic mode is anything like it is on the 1600 and I suspect it is DONT especially with a pillion on. The ESA feels to me set on one up and normal more comfortable than my 1600. Also haven't got round to fiddling with it yet.

Ha,  now you've said that I'm going to have to try dynamic at the 1st opportunity !  Pillion or not.
I've heard people. Moan about the thin grips but they seem fine to me and I don't have small hands.

Grips feel normal to me.  I have also read owners commentating on the clutch action but it felt very smooth and progressive.  I expect its just what you have had before.  As for dynamic mode.  Its can make things feel a bit like hyperdrive. Good fun though. Might not be quite so violent on the RT though.  We shall see.

Had a nice run out today and tried to put into sensible words what I think BMW have improved on over the 2013 model and earlier.  EVERYTHING.
Engine, mirrors, panniers, instruments, weather protection, drive chain.  and (hopefully) no change in excellent build quality.

Panniers??  I've not really taken much notice of them,  is there a difference?
Can't believe how much better the mirrors are though,  I've still loads to learn about my new bike and think it's going to be a pleasure learning

Panniers are stolen again from the 1600.  Much lighter. Locking mechanism is lighter to use and they have the wings to keeps muck off the back of the bike, it works to a degree.

I had the bmw pannier protectors on my last bike,  not sure they would be beneficial on the 14 as that part of the pannier is untainted anyway

Well having dropped a 1600 and scuffing the lid the black bit, painted top part comes off easily the replacement lid was about £170.  But I have read that the impact protectors dont stop them touching down. I have not bothered.

If I drop it and scratch them I might then get the impact protectors to hide the scratch

Did you manage to pick up the k16 when you dropped it?  I managed with the RT but the 16 is a whole lot more weight
