rear brake pads 1200 2007

Post by Doctor T »

Just replaced my rear brake pads with EBC HH pad. I know BMW recommends standard sintered pads on the rear but i like the feedback from the HH pads.
One question i have is why is one pad thicker than the other?. I've contacted EBC and they inform me i have the correct pads but the person couldn't explain why one is thinner than the other. Do you know why?

I've no idea why, but if that is the case surely they have to be handed. Seems strange to me :-X

From what I have read elsewhere https://www.ninetowners.com/threads/uneven-rear-brake-pad-thickness.141033/

and having viewed this video, Disk brake / Floating caliper brake - How it works! (Animation) - Bing video
the outer pad (nearest the piston) is thicker than the inner because the rear brake has a floating caliper.

In the video, as the brake is applied/released, the outer (thicker) pad makes & remains in contact with the disc fractionally earlier & longer than the inner pad.

Seems like a reasonable theory.
