Thanks for all the help. I've had several hours playing with Basecamp but it still seems more complex and less intuituve than what I would expect.

I've had a play with MyRouteApp and I think I'm going to use that instead. It seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, particularly the quick switch to streetview

I had the same problem with Basecamp, I watched loads of youtube videos on how to create routes. I tried them but failed. I was on the verge of giving up when I stumbled across one by a woman

It’s just over 5 minutes long and explains everything, it’s so easy. This week I’ve been planning my route for my Dolomites trip. Everything has been done and transferred to my XT ready for my trip in June.

I find a good map stuck to the tank works just as well
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
