death by exhaust valve

Post by pencile »

I have/had a 2014 wet head 1200rt that just recently busted a right side lower exhaust spring.  Yes you read it right, it did.  I babied that thing to.  It red lines 9 grand and I don't think it ever seen even 5 grand.  Anyway, the valve looks like it took out the head and piston as well.  Having it repaired would be way to expensive. Having said all that, it doesn't have even 50K on it yet.  I'm thinking an engine replace.. Maybe parts, if I can find them.  So, does anybody have some suggestion's  on who, or where and if any of things be had?
  Thanks all

Changing the engine is a bit of an extreme over reaction, one of the pros of the boxer motor is the cylinders stick out the side, should be an easy job to whip the head off and fit a used replacement.

I don't think its much more effort to take the jug off and change the piston either, and the cylinder if need be. A fairly competent diy'er should take no longer than a day.
