Torx set

Post by beemerbaz »

Can anybody recommend a nice mini set of torx keys with a ratchet handle that is compact enough to pack away either under the seat or the storage compartment ?

Again if you are in the UK Halfords pro series 1/4" drive gear is very good for the money and quite compact.

Okay standby for a dumb question is it only torx head will fit the 1200rt or will others. If only torx what sizes do I need. I am not a fetler but not afraid to remove cosmetic covers to clean the bike.

I bought a nice set of "star" screwdrivers from Halfords on officer for £10. Not small enough for under the seat but great for the garage.

Silverline do a couple of Torx Socket Sets,

T10 - T40 1/4" & 3/8" Drive, http://www.silverlinetools.com/en-GB/Pr ... try/763566

T40 - T60 3/8" Drive, http://www.silverlinetools.com/en-GB/Pr ... try/580431

plus a Double Head Ratchet Handle, 1/4" & 3/8" Drive, http://www.silverlinetools.com/en-GB/Pr ... les/675224

It's surprising how few different sizes you need, all of which will fit in the standard BMW tool roll under the seat.

I carry sufficient tools to remove plastics & wheels.

From what I can remember, without getting the tool kit out as the bike is currently tucked away, the following:-

Small Torx bits & Driver for plastics
Torx bits (3/8" Socket Drive) for front caliper bolts, axle pinch bolt, exhaust clamp (T45) & rear wheel bolts (T50)
3/8" Ratchet Wrench + short extension for rear wheel bolts
Wheel Spindle key & 19mm Spanner

Not forgetting your UK/European Breakdown Cover, Credit/Debit Card & Mobile Phone.  ;)

Just checked in the garage, out of this set, http://www.silverlinetools.com/en-GB/Pr ... try/580431,
I only have the T45 & T50 sizes in the bike tool kit, plus other small sizes for the plastics.

(The standard BMW tool kit has the T25 & T30 Torx keys, plus a screwdriver with reversible blade)

Extension Bar, http://www.silverlinetools.com/en-GB/Pr ... les/196508

19mm Spanner, http://www.silverlinetools.com/en-GB/Pr ... nners/LS19

Front Wheel Spindle Key, http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/5394 ... pindle-Key

The Clarke PRO199 3/8" Drive Extendable Ratchet from Machine Mart, looks like a nice tool to have, if it will fit into the tool roll.

Bought this from Machine Mart, Clarke PRO 39 8-Pce TX Tamper Proof Bit Set, not ratchet but a good selection of small Torx sizes.

If you are looking for a ratchet drive, here are a couple of options which can be used with the Torx bits from above.
