12,000 mile service due

Post by Gavj »

So, dealer wants £515 for this service, bikes just turned 3yr old and has done 11,500 miles so warranty is over.

Oil change - no problem
Air filter - No problem
Valve clearances.... - probably but never done a shift cam
Spark Plugs - no problem
Re set service light?.... I assume I need a scan tool / OSBDII thingy..... used a PC and cable to do my Triumphs anyone done theirs?

If you are planning on doing your own servicing then I would invest that money in to the tools to do it correctly

I would be buying all the cam alignment tools and the timing jig too providing you can buy them again as they was out of stock everywhere!

I would think about investing in a GS-911 or the motoscan app too for the service light and any other issues you may face in the future

Yes the 1250 is the obd, it’s a useful bit of kit.

I’ve had the cam alignment jig, cam chain tensioner tool and the tdc tool on order since December last year, the tdc tool arrived a few weeks ago but no sign of the rest as yet.

I know!. If any of these tools get broken at a dealer how are they going to perform the tasks. I was going to check my shims but do t want to go back in to check the cam timing if they arrive soon. Urgh!

£515 is a lot more than I would expect to pay for 12,000 mile service even if brake fluid change due. My last main service 60,000 only came to just over £300. Are they quoting for any other work?

No Additional work, just had another quote from a different dealer, £400 or £350 without brake fluid….
