I have just purchased an Instrument Panel repair kit, the front of the screen screen and a gasket, for a 2019 1250rt. My screen is cracked and it lets in condensation.
The repair manual talks about completing a back up software download before disconnecting. Is this necessary as I was just thinking it was just a case of disconnecting the battery, if I have to, or replacing the screen whilst the Instrument panel is in situ still connected. Has anyone replaced one of these and if so how did it go? Just do not want any unpleasant surprises. Cheers.

I have just done this to my 2019 1250RT
It is very easy to do. You need to remove the screen and covers.
There are 3 clips on the back of the clocks that need removing.
unplug the loom from the clocks and the clocks just life away.
You need a T6 Torx (i think it is) and remove all the screws from the back of the clocks.
Then just swap the front over for the new one.
Then its a case of just putting it back together like it was taken off.

No i did not disconnect the battery, But don't turn the bike on with the clocks removed or you will need a GS-911 or a trip to the dealer to remove the fault code.

Mileage and alike are stored in the ECU
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.

A quick update to complete the post. The condensation in the instrument panel was not the result of the small crack on the grey trim. When I removed the front panel the original gasket had been pinched and that allowed a hole for rain etc to drip in. The pinch was in the middle at the top of the instrument cluster and therefore an ideal entry point for any water as it became a drain point. I could actually see run marks inside the lens when it was off. All reassembled and aside from the time I took, making sure I cleaned and allowed the panel to dry out properly, this is a ten minute job. All be it that it costs nearly £200.
Date and time reset and service light extinguished. Looking forward to a spin with a new bike panel in front of me rather than condensation dancing around.
