Insurance (again)

Post by EasyRider »

So i have been reading on the web about the cost of insurance going up silly amounts in the UK.
So far i have not found this with any of the insurances i have. Until today.
I just had an email for our home insurance (building & contents with accidental damage).
Never made a claim, have both my cars with the same company (buying direct, no broker).
So the renewal price i get this morning is 50% up on last years price.
Now if it was 10-20% i could understand that as the cost of living has gone up.
But 50% is just taking the mick.
I have been online and have found the same cover for just 2/3 of my renewal price.
Will be on the phone tomorrow to see what can be done.
I can see me taking my 3 policys to another insurance company this year.

My R1250RT insurance has gone down, I now insure the RT and the F650GS for the same price as the RT was last year.

Car insurance went up around 25%, I wait to see what the house is in September.

My friends just bought one of the new 1300 gs's. Quote to change from his present bike1800 quid then they decided they wouldn't cover him.
Got 850 quid with Bennetts in the end. Only got a years no claims.
Out of interest I tapped my own details on the same bike onto a comparison site with my full no claims got 500 quid. Still pricey.

Unfortunately, on the way home from picking it up from the dealer he dropped it. 24 miles on the clock.

So i rang up my home insurance company, and was offered a bit more discount. But it was still much higher than i have been qouted for the same cover online. I have now told them i will not be renewing my home insurance with them for this coming year. Lets see what happens in mid may when one of my car insurance is due.

My RT Insurance went up from £105 to £115. I didn't even bother looking around - just renewed it.

My Tesla model Y went up from £840 to £1,496 with no claims or convictions in the last 24 years! At the same time, they (Admiral) increased the comp excess from £60 to £650!!! I tried to shop around, but the cheapest alternative was £1,740!!

Some insurers are now refusing to insure Teslas. Apparently, the high repair costs mean they're more likely to be written off than most. So much for electric cars being the future!
