Thanks Glenn,
I asked about the drain hole and bung for my 2019 yesterday, when I was picking my bike up. I was told they had replaced the foot peg circlips but the service quality improvement, to drill the hole and fit the rubber drain plug, was not yet required for my bike. Apparently BMW are working slowly through the applicable years.

When the last owner had my bike serviced in September 23, the paper work said the pillion clips were replaced.
Well when i went to remove the foot pegs the pin were seized with the clip up inside the little recess.
There is no way the clip could of been removed and new ones fitted without damaging them.
So i dont think they were not done. Also the drain plug was not done on mine as well. (2019 RT)

Thanks for sharing. I bought a used 2019 1250RT last summer (2023). Today after changing the oil and filter. I had the bike on the center stand. With the bike in first gear. I let the clutch out. I heard all manner of grinding/knocking coming from what sounded like the drive shaft housing. I plan on taking it to the dealer first thing in the morning. And have it checked. The bike only has 14150 miles on it.

BMW is doing the right thing with free replacements. As they should. But I find it hard to believe they can’t design/build a more robust and reliable driveshaft. With a 100,000 mile service interval. Instead of 12,427 mi inspection interval. And mandatory replacement every 37k miles? I should have never sold my FJR1300….

From what I’ve read -
Having the bike on the centre stand and running it in gear produces those horrible noises, primarily because the rear wheel and swinging arm are at an unnatural angle, and with no load on the rear wheel. I assume you had the back end lifted up somehow to allow the rear wheel to rotate?
