Normandy `D' day Sites tour - for May 2015

Post by stelyn »

Hi All,  am planning a week in Normandy  this mid May,  touring the WWII  historic Beach Sites / Museums ect as well as  Mont St Michel.  I did a few days out there last September , but only ` scratched’  the surface as theres  just so much to see and visit,  if any forum members are also out that way at this time,  give us a  call and perhaps,  all  can meet up for some  ride outs, tours /`Beers’ and `BS’ about the bikes.    Or if you fancy planning a trip over yourself,  several good `Biker'  B&B’s  out there.    ;)
( see BikerGuide link  for Normandy )

                                        www.normandyvacations.com

The following Link is a useful one to save as it details the various Sites and their locations, you can click on the `balloons’ to read about the Sites as well as the menu on the left.

I did a week in Normandy last last year, and also just scratched the surface. so me and my lady will be going back later this year hopefully.

Also had a great day out at Mont St Michel, as there's some nice seafood restaurants for lunch.

Hi Pope, re Mont St Michel,  is there  a dedicated area to park the Bikes  ( usually free ) or do you mix in with the cars  on that approach causeway,  Ta      ;)

Yes, there is a dedicated free bike park beyond the car park, so you can park close to the causeway and transport point.
I went on the Horse drawn carriage ride to the Mont, nice and slow, to take in the scenery.

We visited Mont Saint-Michel in 2012 & stayed at Hotel Vert, http://www.hotelvert-montsaintmichel.com/en/home.

As we approached the Hotel there was a manned barrier which could only be passed if you were staying in the area, there was car park at this point.

A Shuttle Bus Service ran along the Causeway to the Mont, it may have changed now as the Causeway was being rebuilt.

Since 28 April 2012 the new car park on the mainland has been in service, about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 miles) from the island. Visitors can walk or use shuttles to cross the causeway.

Mont Saint-Michel, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont_Saint-Michel, has become an island again.

The new bridge was opened in July 2014.
