I liked the wunderlich but i saw someone who dropped the bike and the put on illium ,i tried to ask him why but no reply !! if you like them i'll have a look . how about touratech they look good but the bolt on the head , it seems they would transfer the impact right to the engine !!

Spencert231 wrote: Why specifically OEM engine bars? There are good engine bars out there no different to how BMW would contract a company to manufacture for them. I got mine from Wunderlich and I'm very pleased with them.

I suspect they believe the same as me.  If the bars are well out from the heads and a bit higher there is a danger that in a drop the bike will pivot more.  This can happen on the 1600 where the bar is there to protect the engine.  The result is more damage than is necessary to the upper panel parts and mirrors and the top panel of the panniers than would normally happen. I know of LCs that have been dropped on level ground with the OEM head protectors fitted and nothing else has touched down.

Don't care what the site says.  These won't fit the RT without you butchering the lower panels.  And then the top fixings probably won't fit either

Putting Part No. 77148533693 into RealOEM comes up with, K52 (R 1200 RT) R 1200 RT (0A03, 0A13) Set, cylinder-head cover guard.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp ... g=77&sg=14

Putting the Part No. into a "Google Search" comes up with, ENGINE PROTECTION BAR SET, not listed for the RT.

http://parts.bmwmotorcycles.com/p/BMW__ ... 33693.html

Looks like the Fitment/Applications refers to both Assemblies, i.e. Engine Protection Bars & Cylinder-Head Cover Guards.

Why not use what BMW provide.  They work and are not attached to parts of the bike not designed to take the shock of a drop. You also don't end up looking like somebody delivering scaffolding.

With these ZTechnik Engine Bars, the front lower mounting point is bolted directly to the Engine, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QRTQ2rEZCI
