STEAMED UP DASH

On of the persistent problems on the K1600s was the way the dash would steam up at any temperature lower than 10c. The (cure) was a new seal on the glass front but even that didn't always fix the problem.
Lovely day here today, sunny, dry and about 12c so off I went for a quick 50 mile bimble. Pic below shows the result. 40 minutes later it's gone.
Anybody getting the same.  On the 1600s it never seemed to damage anything although I know one owner who said he had staining inside after everything dried out.    .

Had a word with my dealer today and they were not aware of any more clocks suffering with condensation. They are therefor sending a Puma report to BMW about the problem.  Its hard to believe its only mine that's doing it. .

Never had a drop of water on it, on the outside anyway. It can be difficult to see.  Next time you go out in cold weather for more than about half an hour, when you stop, switch off and look at the glass from the side like the photo.

My suggestion might be pointless but each time you park your bike in the garage overnight get some of those moisture absorbent crystals in an old sock or the leg of your wife's stockings and sit it on the dash screen to see if it does draw any moisture out, could be worth trying for a few weeks to see if it makes any difference. Just a thought.

Great advice, BUT, The units are sealed which is the problem. It warms up and then the cold outside temperature causes the condensation. And on top of that Iv only got one pair of tights .

Quick update on my steamy clocks.  BMW have authorised a replacement cluster which will arrive from Germany shortly.  Retail price of the unit is £850 so look carefully when you get  back from a chilly ride.

Thanks for the information RT man, I was hoping I was leaving  behind steamed up clocks,  new gear boxes , clutches and starters.. :o ....I may have changed forums but the faults seem to be very similar.  :-\

Looking at the response on this forum and the reaction from BMW I'm nearly sure mine is a very isolated case. Worry  not about gearboxes etc, they don't exist on the dark side.

Complete new instrument cluster fitted this morning.  Took about 40 minutes. Hopefully that's the end of it.
