Schuberth C3 Pro helmet and problems with Autocom logic headset

I have a new C3 Pro helmet and have experienced lots of problems with the Autocom headset. I'm on my third headset in 6 months and keep getting problems with crackling and the failure of the mic. I had no problems with my old C3 helmet (4 years old with same headset) and have tried that again on the bike with no issues. I've replaced the rider connection lead from the Autocom and the connection las to the helmet and put a wind sock on the Mike to see if it was wind coming through the vent but the third headset has failed again.  Any ideas please?

Crackling and eventual failure of a headset is normally caused by failure or damage to the wiring  As you say the system works with your old helmet and you have changed the extension leads you seemed to have narrowed the problem down to the helmet headset. Normally in flip up helmets you get damage to the connection cable where it exits the helmet or the  mic cable if this moves every time you open the helmet.  I can only suggest you try to install it in exactly the same way you have on your old C3.

Hello All, I have a Pro-comm Headset and Everything is Ok and works Good except
it sounds Tinny, Like the bottom of a  barrel. Hope I can find a way to improve the
sound Quality. This system is on the 2005 R1200 RT

Need a bit more detail on the type of unit you have. What's shown on the main unit and how many pins are on the cables, 5 or 7? One thing you can try is with music playing through it, move your helmet around on your head as much as you can, ie up and down and side to side to check that the speakers are in the right place. it makes a big difference to the sound quality.  Another trick is to check the sound by just putting an uninstalled headset up against your ears. If thats tinny in both ears you probably have a defective main unit.

Thanks RTman for your earlier reply. I'm going to fit a new headset later today but try sticking down the cables with electrical insulation tape to the internal face of the polystyrene liner to make sure the cables are secure. I'm out of ideas otherwise. Everything else is the same as my old lid. The new autocom headset arrived today and it has substantially changed from the previous 3 I've used. The mic boom is now flat, much wider and stiffer and the micro plugs are also slightly larger. Anyway, thanks for your help

You have confused me a little more now.  The latest headsets, assuming its the 7 pin type, has very thin black cables for the speakers The speakers are larger and flatter than the old type . There are no connecting plugs.  On the boom there is one small red connection and the boom arm is round and very flexible. The new headsets will work with the older type units but not the other way round.    The Previous boom had a grey arm which was flat and quite stiff. It has the same red connection. Pic attached of the latest type.

RTman, your photo shows the headset mic boom that I used to date, but the one that has just arrived from Autocom is different now. The mic boom is flat on the one I've just been sent and relatively stiff compared to the previous round section mic. No plugs on the speakers though Image

Part you have is the latest type as DaygloDavid points out.  My installed boom is the same, very flexible and round.  Autocom are forever changing bits though.

3 questions.
Is your Garmin wired to the Autocom and if so is the sound quality good to both you and your pillion.
Do both of you get the same tinny speech or is it just what you get from the pillion and what they hear.
Last dumb question. What colour is the boom felt closest to your mouth.
Still don't know what Autocom unit you have.

I've always found both Garmin, http://www.garmin.com/uk/support/ & Autocom, http://autocom.co.uk/motorbike-headset-intercoms.html,
extremely helpful for support & technical advice, whenever I've had any problems, or questions, which I have not been able to resolve myself, or with the help of others.

Autocom - Technical Advice:-

"When connecting any bike powered audio device to your Autocom (which is also bike powered) it is highly recommended to use isolated audio cables.
These cables feature an inline isolation transformer which prevents interference, ground loops and poor quality sound."

Well, I fitted the new Autocom headset and have changed my in-ear speakers from ACS to Ultimate Ears. I also adjusted the vox setting since the new mic seems much more sensitive than the previous three headsets. Good news, it all seems sorted and the audio quality is very good, clear and legible even at 70ish mph. In my case I think I had a series of faulty Autocom head sets and the ACS in-ear monitors were also probably on their way out (4 years old)
