BMW VIN Decoder

Post by David. »

This BMW VIN Decoder, http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html, can be used to find the "Production Date" of your Bike & any "Optional Equipment" etc.

Have run a check on both my 2010 & 2012 Twin Cam Models & coincidentally, they were both registered 23 & 22 days after their production date respectively.

How long was your Bike standing around before it was first registered.

This information may confirm the supply/demand situation which BMW seem to pursue to maintain prices & not discount them.

So a base model R1250RT is £14,575 in the UK and €18,300 in Germany.

I would say that we already have a discount compared to the Europeans.

If one was able to go a London dealer who bought twice as many bikes as a Yorkshire dealer, received a whopping manufacturer rebate and passed this on to the customer as a discount - how do you think the Yorkshire dealer would feel? The reason for not discounting the bikes is so that poaching customers from other regions is difficult. We have to be content with a discount on accessories or a deal on the trade-in.

Having said that, special offers on pre-reg machines are available near the quarter-end.

It is a pity that the motorcycle business is so different from the car dealers, who have massive sales to the fleets and rental companies.

Interesting stuff.. My RT was built/manufactured 31-08-2010 and first registered 25-03-2011, RT sales must have been slow over winter that year  ;)
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)
