The 73W load rating seems to be an industry standard for 180/55/ZR/17 rear tyres recommended for RT's.

For example, today, the pair of tyres were £184 & I was charged £10 for both (£5 each) to be fitted & dynamically balanced to loose wheels.

In the past, the same tyres cost £168, but was charged £16 for fitting for both (£8 each).
Hello David,

I would be interested to know the date of manufacture of your new Road Smarts. (Week Number and Year is on the offside sidewall) Thanks.

The bike has now done 25,500 miles, that's 5,000 miles on the current, fourth pair of tyres. Both the F&R are legal with about 1mm of serviceable tread remaining.

The ride is not compliant, therefore will be changing for a new pair of RS 1's.

You need some PR4's! You'll get 10k out of them and save yourself some candy  8)

Dunlop don't seem to list the original Roadsmart, https://www.dunlop.eu/en_gb/motorcycle/ ... rt-touring#/ are they no longer in production.

My tyre fitter of choice, NBT, have confirmed that Dunlop Roadsmarts are now indeed discontinued, https://www.nationalbiketyres.co.uk/dunlop

But you can get Roadsmart IIIs, suitable for the RT.
I've used Dunlops in the distant past and I was impressed with the consistency from new to worn out which other tyres didn't have.  I might be tempted to try these Dunlops at some time in the future.

Roadsmart III's are not one of the BMW Motorrad recommended tyres for my bike.

Another positive vote for Dunlop RS3's. Great price point, longevity and handling.

And?.. Break free from the motherships recommendations and feel liberated! They won't thank you for being a loyal servant. 👍 PR 4's, you'll be able to ride in the rain then 😁

I posted a link sometime ago that shows BMW R1200RT being tested with Dunlop Roadsmart III's. Surely BMW wouldn't have allowed it if they didn't agree to it?
