Do you use any Hearing Protection, if so, what & would you recommend them to others.

I use PLUGZZ http://www.plugzz.co.uk/, they are local to me & also do shows around the UK.

Called in today, Paul is really professional, he gave my ears a clean bill of health before taking impressions to make the Hearing Protectors from.

Having used them previously, yes, I would recommend them.

My wife has the Nanocomms for use with an Autocom System on the Bike.

I use custom ear plugs made by Advanced Communication Solutions, through work, but have paid for my own set (£100) for personal riding. They have small filters inside so they don't block out all the noise.

I just just the industrial type from screwfix & the likes. Cost pennies & do the job well. I can still hear the intercom/music/satnav through them ok.

PLUGZZ do Hearing Protectors with filters or "Blanks" without filters, it's a personal choice.

Their prices are certainly a lot more competitive than ACS http://www.hearingprotection.co.uk/ or Ultimate Ear http://www.ultimateear.com/.

Same here.  I have been known to cut them in half so halving the price. 

I have customs from Ultimate Ear - but most of the time just use Alpine Motosafe

Bloody Ell, £20.00 a time.  I have a set of these which came in a small zip up case with a plastic tube for easy fitting. Cost about 5 years ago was £4.99.  Because they have a solid centre to them I found them uncomfortable. Also if you don't get the soft mushroom bit perfectly positioned they don't work at all. 

Agreed, before I got PLUGZZ custom hearing protection, I used this type.



They are a poor fit, protrude beyond your ear & are therefore uncomfortable, the PLUGZZ type don't.

Not sure those started life as ear plugs.

I use Hearo Foam Disposables. Either the Flesh color - a bit smaller and feel softer in th ear when I can find them, or the standard blue 30 something decibel reduction ones.


They both work extremely well and are super comfortable for all day riding.

I have custom fit from ultimate ears but they hurt my ears after a while too hard.

I have a custom made set from Ultimate Ear Plugs.  They are extremely comfortable and very effective - both on the bike and when I am shooting.

I used to struggle to get foam plugs right. A couple of pairs of alpine ones were ok, but then had a set of moulded/custom ones made (met the people at a show): http://www.mercuryhearing.com/

I LOVE the earplugs - easy to put in, always fit perfectly, comfortable, and clean. (I did pull out the cord by mistake after several months - I didn't know I wasn't supposed to use that to remove them - but when I met the guys at another show only this weekend, they offered to make a completely new set 'under warranty'. So great service too.)

Many reviews say they are the best way to go, but if that was the case then surely the MotoGP riders would all wear them. So it could be that they are indeed excellent, and may be better than foam ones if you are not expert at putting the foam ones in - just speculating.
