It is possible to add the OEM brake light without any reprogramming , done quite a few. Feeding anything else directly onto the limbus system will inevitably give you a fault reading on your dash and can damage the whole system.

Assume your talking about the setup that was tried. You can run Skene P3 with their controller for rear brake lights with no ill effects. If you search other forums there are loads who have successfully fitted them. On the Skene web site, they show how to wire up to the LC. In the States BMW actually fit Skene and HyperLite for customers, so it doesn't break anything.
