Brake calliper q
I have been trying to find the torque value on the bolts that hold the two halves of the front brake calliper together (R1200RT 2012).
These are not listed on the parts fiche or mentioned in Haynes manual, they are an M8x40.
Does anybody know whim manufactures the front callipers, are they Brembos with the BMW logo?
Has anybody ever had any experience of these bolts?...my reason for wanting to know the torque value is because I fancy replacing with new for cosmetic reasons....

Re: Brake calliper q
Not advisable to touch these. There re no replacement seals or parts available and the end result of splitting the unit could be a new one.

Thanks RT man,
I was planning on replacing the bolts one at a time so as to negate the need of splitting them, would this be ok...(I relaise you cant say for sure)...

The best I can come up with is Bike Torque Racing, http://www.biketorqueracing.co.uk/sole-uk-distributor,
they claim to be the Sole UK Distributor for Brembo Aftermarket Products, they may be able to help.

In the distant past I did it that way on n old R65 and got away with it. I asked a very knowledgeable machanic how tight they should be. His answer was FT.

BMW do a Repair set brake caliper, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... 4112338257
To do this the caliper would have to be split, therefore, surely BMW should be able to provide the Torque Values.

Its not. Pistons are replaced with no splitting required.

Badged BMW but they are pure Brembo. They don't bother to rebadge them now. Your rear one might show Brembo, some do.

Brembo & Tokico have both made calipers for BMW.
This Video shows "How to" fit new brake caliper seals on your motorbike/motorcycle", it's a Tokico caliper.

Just checked in the Garage, the Rear Caliper on my 2012 TC looks like this one on a GS, the Brembo Logo can be seen on the side facing the wheel.

Re: Brake calliper q
I have not been able to find a torque value for the calliper pinch bolts. Could someone inform me of the material that the calliper is made of so that I can make an educated guess at the torque.
Bolt is M8x40 stainless steel 316, Probolt suggest a maximum torque on the bolt of 28NM, I would like to know what the female thread of the calliper would be
Chris.... ;D
