Police bikes always have crash bars. Maybe just for the spots and ancillary equipment?
I was hit by a car. The cylinder head and panniers took all the impact so my leg was untouched. I did wonder what would have happened if I had been on my previous bike (a Triumph) or if I had been riding without the panniers on. Food for thought.
