I was just reading an article about the bike and it mentioned using the front brake. I thought the bike had linked brakes like my old KRS. Does it have linked brakes?

Yes, semi linked.  Hand lever works them both, foot lever just the back.

Which is why its important to regularly check back brake pads for wear. As the rear brake is always being used it can go down to service limit within the 6000 miles service check if you are a heavy on the brakes.
