Headlight Adjustment Broken?

My headlight adjusting knob just seems to spin one way or the other, with no obvious change to the beam.

Any ideas what might be broken?  Is it connected by a cable?

Thanks in advance.

The headlight aim is indeed cable operated, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=63_1222,
the adjuster knob does seems to turn freely.

During an MOT test on my 2012 RT, the beam could be seen to be moving with the adjuster.

Thanks David.  It's booked in to BMW next week for a service, so I'll get them to take a look.

I wonder why there's no price listed for the cable section on real OEM?

That means you can buy all the bits that connect to it separately but the cable comes with it all.  The part number is the first one shown, ie No 1

Thanks all.  I'll get BMW to investigate and I'll report back.

I meant No 8.  When an item is shown in a border/box the number of that box is all,the items in it.

Had my RT MOT'd again today, the headlight beam throw was too low, even with the adjustment knob as far as it would go in the UP direction: Neutral position.

Removed the LHS fairing upper side panel to access the vertical adjustment adjuster on the back of the headlight unit. The beam throw was adjusted and checked with the MOT headlight alignment equipment. Now when loaded, if the suspension preload adjustment isn't sufficient to maintain the beam throw, the adjustment knob can be used if necessary.

Similar thing happened to mine. It was a small nut on the back of the adjuster that was the problem 10 min job
